Yes. By default, when you open your online store, all the different notifications are setup for you.
As an example of notification, when a visitor creates an account on your store, he will receive an email confirming his details. When he makes a purchase, he will receive the order details. When you update the order's status, the customer will get notified. And so on...
You can disable any of those notification and change the email template. For more information, please read the topic "How to manage email notifications my customers receive ?"
