What is a Google Sitemap and what is it used for ?
The Google Sitemap allows a webmaster to inform search engines about URLs on a website that are available for crawling. A Google Sitemap is an XML file that lists the URLs for a site.
What is it used for?
- Sitemap is helpful when the site is very large and there is a chance for the web crawlers to overlook some of the new or recently updated content
- It is useful when the site has pages that aren't easily discovered by Googlebot during the crawl process.
- Highly helpful in the case when the websites have a huge number of pages that are isolated or are not well linked together
- Is also very useful in the case when a website has a few external links
